This week I am in the studio with Bryan Jeffs and the SOU Percussion Ensemble working on the premiere recording of Mark Applebaum’s 30, a work we co-commissioned, premiered, and performed at PASIC in 2013. 30 is in 3 parts: The First Decade for solo percussion, The Second Decade for percussion quartet, and The Third Decade for percussion septet. The piece can be performed in any combination of the 3 parts, or any parts alone.
We recorded the quartet on Thursday and I recorded the solo today, both at Brokenworks Productions in Ashland, an amazing space! So inspiring to play there! Sean McCoy of Oregon Sound Recording at the console – awesome ears!
Tuesday we record the septet in the Southern Oregon University Music Recital Hall. Check back for pics from that session!
This project will appear (complete work and The Third Decade) on our new Southern Oregon University Percussion Ensembles CD, “Electric Rebel Poetry”. Also, the work in all 7 of its versions will be issued in the near future by Mark Applebaum on the Innova Label. Check back for news on that!
Thanks Mark Applebaum for the incredible music, to Bryan Jeffs for his fantastic conducting, and to all the players in the SOU Percussion Ensemble for your artistry – such an honor to share this recording with you all!
